Common Ground Health, Foodlink, and City of Rochester received $100 000 grant award to set up food policy council. The grant is part of the Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge, funded by the Aetna Foundation, the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the National Association of Counties (NACo).
The goal of the food policy council is to identify gaps and opportunities to expand equitable access to quality food. The team will involve residents as leaders to create a long-lasting impact on the health of the community. In addition to improving the health of the community, the work of the food policy council will strengthen the local economy, promote social justice, and nurture the beauty and sustainability of our natural environment.”
The grant comes at a time when Rochester was named 2020 All-American City by the National Civic League. This is the third time Rochester receives this award. Previously, it received it in 1981 and 1998.
