NRHI National Summiton Regional Healthcare Transformation
On February 7, 2013, NRHI convened a national Summit on Regional Healthcare Transformation in Washington, DC to report on the work that Regional Health Improvement Collaboratives (RHICs) are doing across the country to redesign the way healthcare is delivered so that healthcare costs can be reduced without rationing, to create payment systems that reward higher quality and lower cost, to help physicians, hospitals, and other providers succeed under new payment and delivery models, to effectively engage patients in improving their health and choosing the highest-value providers and services, and to measure and publicly report on progress.
At the Summit, over 100 leaders from Congress, federal agencies, national organizations, and regional collaboratives from across the country shared information about pathbreaking initiatives to improve the quality and reduce the cost of healthcare. They also discussed ways to overcome the barriers that many communities and their stakeholders are facing in improving healthcare costs and quality, such as difficulties in obtaining access to timely, actionable data, problems in implementing appropriate and coordinated changes in payment systems, legal impediments to collaboration among payers and providers, and inadequate resources to support planning and implementation of dramatic changes.
Links to the videos and slides from the presentations from this important Summit are available below. They demonstrate the exciting and important progress that is being made in dozens of communities across the country in tackling one of the nation's most important challenges, and describe actions that can and should be taken to continue and accelerate this progress.
